The hourly rate for the Criminal Justice Act (CJA) panel attorney has been increased from $110 to $126 for work performed on non-capital cases on or after March 1, 2014. Where the appointment of counsel occurred before March 1, 2014, the new compensation rates will apply to that portion of the services provided on or after the effective date.
Likewise, the panel attorney case compensation maximum amounts have increased by $100 to $9,800 and $7,000, respectively, in the following types of matters: felonies, proceedings under 18 U.S.C. § 983, post-conviction proceedings under 28 U.S.C. §§ 2241, 2254, or 2255, proceedings under 28 U.S.C. § 1875, and appeals from those matters. However, the other case maximum amounts of $2,800 and $2,100 remain the same.
The new case compensation maximums apply to a voucher submitted by appointed counsel if the attorney furnished any CJA-compensable work on or after March 1, 2014. The former case compensation maximums apply to representation that is completed before March 1, 2014.
