The District Court of the Virgin Islands annually hosts a Pro Bono to Empower and Represent Act of 2021 (POWER Act) Forum. The POWER Act, originally enacted in 2018, is a pivotal piece of legislation designed to expand access to pro bono legal services for individuals who might otherwise lack representation. The Act promotes justice and equality by encouraging legal professionals to provide free legal assistance, ensuring that financial barriers do not prevent individuals from exercising their legal rights.
Through this annual forum, the District Court brings together legal professionals and community leaders to discuss the importance of pro bono services and to strategize ways to strengthen legal support for underserved individuals in the community. The event reinforces the court’s commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable legal system, where all individuals have the opportunity to seek fair representation under the law.
